Go to pickleballtournaments.com, select ‘Tournaments’ then ‘Tournaments by Country/State’, pick ‘New Mexico’ and the ‘ABQ Labor Day Classic’, then ‘Show Results’ to see the medal winners and brackets.

A little “friendly” competition was the order of the day. There were also those people from different venues who came out to cheer on their friends and we appreciated them coming out as well. It made for an exciting morning.

We also took this opportunity to give some “Real Game” experience to new & newer Referees. Thank you first timers Rich B, Elaine H, Myrna B, John Y, Ken L and Jim C for jumping in to help and learn. Also there to Ref and help were Anthony & John K who helped out & kept everyone in line! You all did a great job and the players were very happy to have you on the Courts! Rec Center Release Waiver

Great venues, great players, and great food all make this a really neat pickleball event.

If you missed us last year we hope you will come this year. If you were here last year we really want you back again.

This year is special to us because it is our best chance to raise funds toward the grant for a new 5 outdoor pickleball court complex in Gunnison. We hope to have the courts constructed this summer.

There will be 4 divisions again this year: 3.0 and below, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5 and above.

Last year we had great competitiveness in all divisions. Some more 4.5 and above players would add more balance to that division so we hope the 4.5 and up players will return and encourage other players to come as well.

If you have questions please call.

Gunnison is pleased to again be the starting point for the Western Slope Tournament Series.

Our tournament dates are Saturday and Sunday, April 2nd and 3rd.

If you were here last year, we really want you back. If you missed us last year, come to a great kickoff to the tournament season.

We will use 9 courts, 3 at our Rec Center and 6 at Western State Colorado University Field House.

This year we will have the following divisions:

3.0 and below

4.5 and above

All divisions will be gender doubles on Saturday and mixed doubles on Sunday. Adding the 4.5 is a biggie and I truly hope we can fill it. It will add a lot to the tournament series if we can get the participants to fill the brackets. Help us and the entire series by number one, coming and playing in our tournament, plus talking this up to the upper level players so we can better balance the field.

This event ran so smooth and was such a great success, we are ready to have another (just give us time to catch our breath). Thanks to everyone that came into town to enjoy and compete in a very social and fun environment. We had folks come in from California, Colorado, Arizona, Angel Fire, Albuquerque, Ruidoso, Carlsbad and our very own “locals”. Shaunna and I, along with all staff members really enjoyed interacting and watching some really good pickleballers.

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation had the privilege to host you all and we hope our city and the tournament treated you all well. Good luck & be safe with all your future travels & tournaments and until next time.”
